Position Summary
Staff position supports NU home athletic events for volleyball and/or basketball. Responsibilities are dependent on experience but may include different assignments such as operation of the game scoreboard, announcing, bookkeeping, or shot clock operation. This temporary position averages 5-10 hours per week for home games and is in the confines of the academic year (September to May).
Essential Functions
- Must be able to attend all home athletic events as assigned.
- Based on experience and knowledge, duties may include operating the scoreboard or shot clock for basketball games and maintaining accurate bookkeeping for home basketball or volleyball games.
- Possibility to act as play-by-play announcer at volleyball or basketball games if experience aligns.
- Maintain a professional demeanor at all times with NU staff, athletes, coaches, fans, and officials.
- Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
Education/Experience/Skills
- Availability to work nights and weekends. Availability to work basketball games near Christmas and New Years holidays may be needed.
- Knowledge of collegiate basketball and/or volleyball rules is necessary.
- Experience working high school or college athletics game operations preferred.
- Demonstrate commitment to maintaining a safe work environment free of harassment, violence, and unlawful discrimination.
- Ability to communicate effectively, get along well with co-workers, and deal effectively and professionally with colleagues.
Working Environment
- Work is generally performed indoors in the gym.
- Weekend/evening work required.
- May be exposed to loud noise levels.
Physical Demands
The functions are usually performed while sitting, but may involve some amount of time standing, stooping, kneeling, bending, crouching, walking, carrying, reaching, stretching, climbing, perform repetitive motions of the hands or wrists and other movements. The abilities of seeing, hearing and speaking are also required.
Compensation
Based on education and experience, the position has a hiring pay of $16.66/hour
